BAT BANGLADESHIS LOOKING FOR HEAD OF LITIGATON AND COMMERCIAL

Function: Legal & External Affairs

Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh

Reports to: Area Head of Legal, APMEA Central

Reporting Level: Senior Level

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

Business & Operational:

Ensure the organization interests and reputation are protected and business and legal risks minimized by a combination of legal, compliance and governance counselling, drafting and reviewing legal documentation and through bringing and/or defending litigation against the company.
Actively review all the legal risks to guard against potential litigation, as well as defending against all litigation to protect the company’s reputation, mitigate financial losses and continue to do business.
Assist in structuring transactions to minimize commercial risks as well as maximize financial benefit.
Drive and manage adherence to the company record management policy by creating awareness and regularly auditing creation and management of records.

Management:

Develop and implement legal strategies and plans, which optimize legal contribution to the realization of the business objectives.
Review, draft, and implement policies, frameworks, and processes for managing legal risks and governance objectives as well as managing all the litigation.
Recruit, train and develop talent and resources to ensure ongoing capability of the function to meet business needs.
Leadership:

Demonstrate leadership to visibly demonstrate the Ethos and create an environment which values teamwork and excellence and create a culture which embraces innovation and stretch to achieve ambitions of A Better TomorrowTM
Demonstrate leadership to the legal team to inspire and motivate team members to stretch and innovate in pursuance of personal and functional development as well as business goals.
Provide guidance and direction to the Legal sub-function to ensure the implementation of functional strategies and plans.
Ensure the development of a robust sustainable talent pipeline for the Legal sub function, with clear succession planning, which understands and considers the broader business talent requirements and development opportunities.
Relationship:

Build cross-functional relationships as sub functional head to create an environment where resources and information are shared and silos are broken in pursuit of business objectives.
Develop and exploit effective networks within the legal community, other multinational companies, regulatory and legal authorities to further the cause of the business and exert a positive influence on stakeholders to enhance and protect the reputation of the organization.
Interact and exchange views with lawyers across the Area as well as in Globe House and the Region in order to capture learnings and share information.
Continuously review latest legal developments and impart training and know how to ensure the organization fulfils all its legal obligations.
Innovation:

Develop and implement functional policies, processes, and initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal sub function, utilizing digital technology where applicable.
Disseminate knowledge, information and learnings within the organization and create awareness of legal and governance issues in order to facilitate productivity gains and continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

A Law Degree, with a professional qualification and at least a minimum of 10 years combined legal practice and in house legal counsel experience.
Understanding of strategy and the tobacco industry.
In-depth knowledge of legal principles and corporate law.
Must have an analytical, interpretive, innovative and constructive approach to problem solving, with an ability to think strategically.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Foreign legal experience and qualification would be valuable.
Good understanding of business principles and processes and business orientated attitude and mind.
High quality drafting, research skills, communication and negotiation skills.
Overall understanding and appreciation of the company’s business, policies, and strategies.
