ROLE SUMMARY
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
Drive an Asia Tobacco Breeding Programme Hub in Bangladesh, developing hybrids with higher yield, stability, quality, tolerant for main diseases with stable chemistry content and sensorial aligned to product demand, considering all Asia Leaf Operations
Engage with all Asian Leaf Operations to guarantee demand capture and delivery strategy
Ensure full traceability, germplasm asset security and approach for a most confidential information
Full exchange of knowledge, capabilities, breeding approach and hybrids with the Global Tobacco Breeding Centre in Brazil that lead the process
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
Support the ESG Leaf agenda developing and launching new hybris with higher yield, enabling farmer margin increase and leaders in biodiversity by tolerant hybrids for different diseases
Support Excellence in Quality Delivery Leaf agenda and efficiency, developing and launching new hybris with chemical, physical and sensorial quality to meet the demand according to end markets and lamina yield efficiency
With the lead from Brazil Global Tobacco Breeding Centre, capture the demand and support the strategical agenda for all Leaf Operations in Asia
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic planning and allocation of breeding resources in germplasm enhancement and line development
Develop and implement effective breeding strategies, tools and methods in tobacco to improve genetic gain and efficiency related to yield, diseases tolerance and quality according to global end markets requirements
Report technically and strategically to Global Breeding Centre in Brazil, exchanging knowledge, capabilities, germplasm, driving the main efforts on breeding to Asian Leaf Operations
Conduct a full breeding programme with support from the Global Centre in trials design, trials installation, crosses definition, hybrid evaluations, field and lab data collection, analysis, and recommendation
Maintain clear and accurate breeding records, traceability, Intellectual Property protection and confidentiality on data management as germplasm asset (Plant genetic resource management)
Drive adoption of accelerated breeding tools and methods as predictive analytics, high throughput phenotyping and multiple crosses across the year to ensure long term success
Ensure the Asian Breeding Hub goals achievement and resource needs aligned with Asian Leaf Operations demands in a collaborative breeding model with the lead of Global Breeding Centre
Coordinate breeding efforts with internal and external partners
Manage breeding farm having strong collaboration with farm supervisor and the team.
Responsible for managing laboratories at MLD
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & KNOWLEDGE
Experience Required
Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience in public or private company with plant breeding programme
Strong knowledge of advanced breeding techniques, analytics, and statistics
Experience with strategic planning and allocation of breeding resources

2-3 years active work experience in breeding/PhD in plant breeding & Genetics
